Dr. Hyeon-Wook Kim is a professor of KDI School of Public Policy and Management. Before he joined Korea Development Institute (KDI) in 2000, Dr. Kim served as an economist and an advisor to the Monetary Policy Committee and a secretary to the governor of the Bank of Korea from 1989. In 2011, he moved to the private sector and served at SK Group as a Senior Director and Vice President. After he returned to KDI in 2017 he served as the Director of Macroeconomic Research, Director of Financial Policy Research, and Director of Macroeconomic Analysis and Forecasting. His areas of specialization and research interests include macroeconomics, international finance and trade, financial regulation, and foreign exchange market analysis. He has written numerous papers on Korean banking industry, bank capital adequacy, and monetary policy and so on. As a graduate of Seoul National University, Dr. Kim earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. Subsequently, he was awarded an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University.
